GIT is a very useful and FREE Version Control System. Have you ever been working on a project and wish that you could revert to an older version of that project? This free service allows you to do just that. You can commit your project to a repository, merge your files, or checkout older versions of the files that you were working on all with the help of this great service.
All of your files are stored in a repository in the Cloud (though you use a local repository on your own machine before pushing the files to the Cloud). You can make your files free for the world to see or make them private if you have confidential information that you don’t want anyone to see.
I could go on about how great this tool is but instead I’m providing a free Sitepoint download of a 29 page ‘book’ by Thom Parkin entitled, “GIT Fundamentals,” so that you can try it out for yourself. This book covers all of the basics such as the commit, checkout, branches and merging. Everything you need to get started with GIT.
